New book with Groveport lore!

May 19, 2019 by Jim McCracken (Register to contact)

Hello GMHS friends!
I've just published a book that includes some wonderful memories of Groveport. Let me invite you to read the book - you might be in it! I've had a wonderful life and now have the privilege of sharing it more fully with friends through my recently published memoir, Accidental Life. Most of you will recognize places, events, students, teachers, your mascot...some of you may even remember specific occurrences and possibly find your name or face smiling back at you! (No worries - I was kind.) There are nearly 70 photos, 12 of them from my Groveport years. Here's the bio connected to the book:

Jim McCracken is a proverbial Jack-of-Many-Trades and gatherer of many experiences. Having grown up in quintessential baby boomer mid-west, early adventures and crises were of the Huck and Tom variety. Later on, with degrees in business, communication, and cross-cultural theology, varying proficiency in 5 languages, employment experience ranging from NFL personal assistant to missionary, willful assistant to births, marriages and deaths, and experiential claims of being hijacked in Ohio, stranded in Iraq, lost in Turkey, and officially labeled a terrorist in a Middle Eastern country... there is something of relevance and interest for nearly anyone to read. "Accidental Life" not only tells the stories, but also offers a subtle suggestion throughout about how to enjoy such a wonder-filled life. Jim and his wife, Deb, have three daughters, a perfect dozen grandchildren, and are indeterminately paused in Louisiana.

From my perspective, growing up in Groveport in the era I did was a gift. The school building may be demolished, but not our millions of memories. I hope you enjoy cruising some common nostalgia with me. Please, pass on a word about the book to those in our circle you think might enjoy coming along on the ride.

I don't know that it will ever make it to your local Barnes & Noble, but ACCIDENTAL LIFE: Purposefully Stumbling into Meaningful Existence is available in paperback or eBook formats to readers shopping at Amazon, Apple iBooks, Barnes & Noble Nook, or Kobo readers and 70+ online retailers.

I would be so pleased to learn someday that you read it and found some enjoyment, if not encouragement, in it. A few of you might even find your names in it!

Warm wishes to you.

Happy reading.

Jim
